Korean fashion model-turned-actress Pyeon Jung-su will be among a horde of celebrities who will be lending their name to handbag scheme to commemorate World Environment Day this month.

Aveda, an American cosmetic brand known for using natural ingredients, has joined forces with international celebrities and Project Alabama, a fashion brand known for eco-friendly designs, to promote awareness of the environment.

In partnership with the Natural Resources Defense Council, the campaign, “Handbags for the Earth,” a celebrity fundraiser, kicks off with an online auction at eBay (www.ebay.com) starting June 5.

The Project Alabama designer has custom-made 500 handbags from 100 percent cotton recycled T-shirts that were hand-stitched by local artisans.

Aveda sent the bags, along with fabric paint, to some of the hottest celebrities in the world.

The auction will feature bags autographed by Kirstin Dunst, Jessica Alba, Susan Sarandon and Carmen Electra, as well as seven Koreans, including Gam Woo-sung, star of “King and the Clown,” and Pyeon Jung-su.
