Fishing fundamentals for trout

Here are some great tips for catching large trout in urban lakes

An effective method to catch trout is still-fishing using either natural baits (earthworms or single salmon eggs) or scented artificials (Trigger X or PowerBait dough baits, or Jensen Eggs).
You’ll need a lightweight spinning rod with matching reel (loaded with six-pound-test monofilament) plus an assortment of hooks, sinkers, swivels, floats, and bait.
For a basic set-up, secure an ounce sinker onto the main line, then attach a small barrel swivel below the sinker.
Tie a 50-cm piece of monofilament leader to the other end of the swivel.
At the end of the leader, tie on a #10 bait hook with your preferred bait.
In spring and fall, fish feed actively at all depths.
Attaching a float or bobber above your weight will let you fish your bait from just below the surface to right off the bottom.
A trout taking your bait will pull the bobber under.
During summer, fish prefer cool water closer to the bottom. Cast your set-up out, and let it sink.
A buoyant dough bait will float attractively just off the bottom. Watch your rod tip for bites.
