409 rockets launched to make rain in response to crippling drought

China used artificial means to cause rainfall in seven provinces to ease drought. Weather-control officials said they fired 2,392 artillery shells and launched 409 rockets in 127 cloud-seeding operations. China has declared the highest level of emergency in response to the drought affecting most parts of northern China since November.
