Alleycat is now a ‘Datuk’

Ethnic India David Arumugam of pop band Alleycats made a ‘knight’ in Malaysia

Ethnic Indian David Arumugam, the lead vocalist of Malaysian pop group Alleycats, is now a Datuk, the Malaysian equivalent of a British knight. The award was conferred by the Sultan of Pahang state. The honour comes a few months after Bollywood star Shah Rukh Khan became the first foreign actor to be conferred Datukship by the Sultan of Malacca. Arumugam, 59, whose real name is Thiagarajan K.R. Arumugam, has been a pop singer for four decades.
