Chinese pioneers exhibition

The mighty ‘Lo Wah Kiu'  laid the foundation for all Chinese communities in Canada.

The mighty ‘Lo Wah Kiu’ – literally old Chinese overseas – laid the foundation for all Chinese communities in Canada.
These pioneers struggled with institutionalised racism until they finally became Canadians in 1947.
In art, video, photographs, performance and presentations, the mighty “Lo Wah Kiu: Our Stories” exhibition tells the evocative tales of this resilient community, including its struggle against the Chinese head tax legislated by the Canadian government.
One of the displays will be an exhibition entitled “We are Canadian” by Cynthia Lee, whose art piece is a Canadian flag created from sixty head tax certificates.
This exhibition runs from March 29 – April 2, 2012 at W2 Media Café: 111 West Hastings, in the Atrium of the historic Woodward’s complex.
