Fishing in the GVRD
FIshing within the city has become a reality after a new program was launched this past March
Love to fish, or want to try, but don’t have much time? The Freshwater Fisheries Society of BC (FFSBC) may be stocking trout in a pond near you. With its Fishing in the City program, the Society – in partnership with municipal and regional parks, and the Provincial Fisheries Program – is bringing fishing closer to home for Metro Vancouver residents. You can go fishing without a long drive!
Starting in March, the FFSBC is once again releasing thousands of catchable-sized rainbow trout in North Vancouver (Rice Lake), Burnaby (Deer Lake), Coquitlam (Como and Lafarge lakes), Surrey (Green Timbers Lake), Abbotsford (Mill Lake), and, as of last year, Vancouver’s Hastings Park (Sanctuary Pond).
Frequently stocked throughout the spring and fall, all of these fishing in the City lakes have great shore- or pier-fishing. You may keep up to two trout per day, but remember: anglers 16 years and older need a freshwater fishing license.
